450 New Sports Jobs at NBC Stamford

Popular television network NBC has opened up shop in Stamford, Connecticut.  This move will help boost the growing sports media industry in the area



The NBC sports group plans on converting the former Clairol hair dye factory into network studios and office spaces.  The group already has 200 employees in this area however the expansion will add another 450 jobs to the Stamford area.

This move will be very beneficial for the Connecticut job market.  The Clairol factory closed down in 2006, taking 600 jobs with it.  These 450 jobs will give locals opportunities to get into the sports industry.  The jobs offered by NBC will also pay well.  The average salary for these positions will $70,000 a year.

One of the reasons that NBC was able to move into this area is that they qualified for state incentives under the "First Five" program.  This program was designed to attract companies who planned expansions of at least 200 jobs.  The state of Connecticut will give NBC a loan of $20 million dollars at a 1% interest rate.
