How to Get a Job in Sports Radio

Getting a job in sports radio is not as difficult as one may think.  Most people who want to work in radio do not know how to go about it.  This industry is generally about making the right contacts.  The best way to do this is to sign up for a radio course at college.Getting a radio qualification is important as it allows job seekers to build up their reel.  People cannot apply for a sports radio job without having some clips to show their future employers.  If the course is good they will introduce their students to important people in the industry.

Once a student has completed their course they will need to look for an internship.  Most internships will be unpaid as this is a highly competitive field.  After the internship is completed, job seekers will be in a better position to apply for paying work.  As a job applicant gets more experienced, the more likely they are to be hired.

Most radio stations do not advertise their vacancies.  Again this is because the manager generally has candidates in mind when a vacancy comes up.  People who want to be considered for these roles should call several stations and ask who they can send a copy of their resume to.  It is important to phone the station office, not the on-air DJs.  Those who do this may find that they get a call from the station in the future.  People who want to move into television may want to consider getting a journalism qualification.
